4 months old

This was at Mimi and Granddad's...obviously in December!  Seeing as I was born on August 10, this would make me about 4 months old!

I wonder what was wrong with Mimi's hand?  Looks like a bandage around her thumb.  Maybe she poked herself changing a diaper?

Mimi and Granddad

I love this!  My grandparents, Mimi and Granddad.  These are my mom's parents.  Granddad died when I was 6 years old.  I was down in Temple when they took him to the hospital, waking up to, I think, my Aunt Jane telling me what was going on.  If I remember right, he had a heart attack.  His name was David Edward, which is where my brother...and Joshua...both got their middle names!

Was that their car, Mom?

Andy needed to be in the picture, too!

My dad loved dogs... that's probably an understatement.  I think this one was Andy...Frosty came later. I could have it reversed, but that's what I think.

When this picture was taken, which would have been 1954, was Aunt Jane living in Dallas..or did she come up with Mimi and Granddad?

For those who may not know,
from left to right:
Andy, my dad, Mimi, Granddad, and my Aunt Jane.

Aunt Jane was my mom's sister and they lacked one day of being exactly 9 years apart.  (My mom was the oldest.)

I wonder:  why does my dad and Granddad have on a tie?

Cute puppy...but who is holding it?

I'm thinking this is my great Aunt Mary and Uncle...but who is that with them holding that cute little puppy.

I thought this was taken the same day as the one of my mom and dad pregnant with me...but I don't think so.  They have on jackets in this picture...and is that the same car?

Aunt Mary?

I think this is Aunt Mary...my grandfather's sister.  Is that right, Mom?  Is she the one that people would say "they threw away the key when she was made"?  (or something like that?)

I do love this car!

I have also noticed that quite a few photos were taken this same day.  The ones of my mom pregnant..and everyone is dressed up!  What was going on that day?

I need help with this one!

I'm not sure who everyone in this picture is.  On the left is Mimi..but next to her...is that Pa?...Meemaw...and then the two on the right?  Does this look familiar, Mom?
I'm assuming these are some of Mimi's siblings?

I sure do like Mimi's dress!

Mother and Daughter...

My mom said this was probably taken about April....before I was born in August.  So, this would make my mom about 6 months pregnant.

I love this picture!

My Mimi and my mom!

Getting ready for a baby!

Here's my parents!  They were soon to be parents ... of me!  I know my mom got a lot larger with me, so this must have been about ....June?  What do you think, Mom?

This was taken in front of Mimi's house...in 1954!

Sitting around Mimi's table

This looks like a fun gathering!  I'm realizing my mom is like me...well, maybe vice versa.  I'm seldom in photos now, because I'm usually the one taking them.  My mom isn't in that many pictures back here in the 1950's...and probably because she's taking them!

You might notice the ashtrays on the table...oh my!  Times have changed ... for the better in that regard!  I'm assuming this was in the 1950's...probably around the mid 1950's since all these new old photos were obviously from then because I was a baby or pretty young!

For you younger readers of the JohnstonChronicles, from left to right is my dad, my Aunt Jane, Aunt Terry, Uncle Charlie (was he officially my 'uncle' here?) Uncle Buddy, and Mimi.  Where was Granddad?  I know where Bonnie Lou was...taking the photo!  Right, Mom?

Exhausted?

This is Mimi...holding me.  She looks exhausted...but happy?
I remember sitting up one night with Benjamin while Lindsey and Donnie tried to get some sleep. I'm sure I smiled, even if I was totally tired.

Being a grandmother...being a Mimi is the best!

1954 - 4 generations

There are 4 generations here...even though the newest generation is in utero!  I love this!
From left to right:  Aunt Monk (Mimi's sister), Meemaw (Mimi's mother, my great grandmother), Mimi, Mammaw (my dad's mother), my mom (pregnant with me)!

Mimi lived in Temple, Texas....and my mammaw lived in Austin.
Mimi always seemed so much younger to me than Mammaw...
I loved my Mammaw, but not like I loved my Mimi!

One of my favorites!

That's me...with Albert!

July, 1993

It's hard to remember having our boat...
going to the lake
with our 3 kids!
1993....this was a little over 21 years ago!!!

1965

In this picture in 1965, I was 11 and John David was 6.  I remember that dress...it was aqua!
Hard to believe this picture was 49 years ago!

John David, we're definitely getting older!

1965

Looks like a pretty November day in Dallas, Texas in 1965!
That's my baby brother...with my cousin, Patti, in the front.  Behind them is my mom, Mimi, and my Aunt Jane, Patti's mom, my mom's sister!

Who did that car belong to?  Was it our Fairlane...blue?
Who took the picture?  I wonder if I did?

1949

Mimi, 1949

A legacy was started here.
Driving
I don't really know how Mimi felt about driving, but her daughter, my mother, has always loved to drive.  That love was passed down to me, Mimi's granddaughter, my mom's daughter.
I love to drive...to drive long distances by myself doesn't phase me...I totally enjoy it, just like my mom.
I don't know the story behind this picture...only that it's my Mimi in 1949.
Mom, do you know?

Airborne

March 1984
Gabrial, 5;  Joshua, 7

Here's my boys... 30 years ago!  They loved camo and army men.
Here they are again in July of this year.

I love these two!  Joshua still wears camo, but for his job, Gabe still likes camo, but only for hunting and mainly because he's so proud of his older brother!

Were they going fishing?

Here's another picture I need a little background and help with.  I don't know the year, and I don't know everyone in the photo.  The middle three, however, I do know!

2nd from the left is my Aunt Monk.  Next to her in the center is Ebba.  (Benjamin and Emerson...it's Ebba's husband who we called Poopdeck!)...and next to Ebba is Mimi!  I don't know the people on either end.

The boat's all hooked up and ready to go...heading to Lake Belton?

This is really our garage...

I know you may not believe that this is our garage...but it is!
It definitely still needs some work.  Someone at this address has a very difficult time getting rid of 'stuff'... there are cans/boxes/jars of 'stuff' on the workbench and on shelves across the garage from the workbench that probably haven't been used in 15 years ... or more.

"Don't throw that away!"
"Ron, you haven't used it in 20 years!"
"I might need that!" is the usual answer.
The important part...and the unbelievable part, is that I can actually get my car inside!  What a novel idea!

Yep, it fits...with room to spare!
He asked me if I wanted to drive his truck to work tomorrow...so the car could stay in it's new spot.

"No."
