It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Oh, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
We went to get a tree today...
I love to do that... I have such memories of Christmases growing up...and with our own kids through the years.

The ornaments...

Many of them mean a lot because of who gave them to me...

Patti gave this one to me in 2010 when we had 19 here for the week...oh how I love to have everyone here...

This ceramic Christmas tree was made by my mom...I don't even know how many years ago...over 25!  Benjamin was fascinated with it last year...loving to pull up a chair to the buffet and rearrange the lights.

Last year, in 2012, Emerson was in awe of the gifts under the tree and the tree itself.  He would just sit on the floor and look at it.  William would probably love it more this year...but I don't guess they'll get one in Santiago...
Does celebrating Christmas with a tree and gifts take the focus off Christ?  For me, absolutely not... The wise men came with gifts to the Christ child... Giving gifts is done because you love others...and enjoy giving.
Students I have had who are not allowed to celebrate...to take part in the festivities children (and most adults) enjoy, what impression does that leave with them?  That serving Christ can't be enjoyed...can't be fun?  I love the parties, the gathering together with family and friends... And I know Who is the reason for the season...

2nd Thanksgiving post, 2013

Benjamin was agreeable when it came to taking pictures...
 he's not always this way...
He used to always be willing to have his Mimi take pictures...but that's changed as he's gotten older.
I have no idea what happened this visit, but he, as you can tell, was happy to have his picture made with his Saddie...

Then he took a picture of his Saddie and his Mimi...

We need to work on this!

He's 53...but still my baby brother!

My baby brother, John David, is 53 years old today.  Yesterday, I mentioned that he'd be 54 tomorrow.  He was QUICK to correct me that he would only be 53.
Fast forward to 1979...painting the trim on our parent's house...such a helper!
Joshua was 3 years old...and Gabe was a baby...so their Uncle John was filling up the swimming pool for them!  What an uncle!
This is also 1979... but we're at Mimi's house...playing with his nephews!
What a stud with his new car!... and such a snazzy dresser!
Hanging out with Joshua...over at Aunt Terry and Uncle Buddy's house...still in 1979.
By 1985, he was learning to snap photos like his big sister!  What a photographer!
Christmas, 1985
By Christmas of 1998, my baby brother was a family man with a wife, 2 kids, and a dog.
 Christmas, 1998
 Christmas, 1998

Even in 1998, he was quite the comedian!

Did I mention he was a 'comedian'?  He was acting like he was licking the gravy bowl clean...or maybe he WAS licking the gravy bowl clean!
I do believe UJ was making sure his nephews didn't take too much pie...
After the Christmas celebrations...out to dinner with sweet Becky!
In 1999, he took us out to eat at Old Warsaw...
and then in 1999, he was being quite the comedian...again.
I can't find the year for this picture...but I love it!
This was in December, 2006...I do believe it was Christmas day!
with his mama and his favorite sister in 2006!
One of my all time favorite pics of my baby brother and one of my baby boys, Gabe!
November 2011
in Colorado...at my baby brother's house for Thanksgiving.

Well, here it is, December 1st...
Happy, happy birthday to you, brother dear!

Your favorite sister adores you :)

DISCLAIMER!!!
He isn't always truthful!
He's actually 54...

First Thanksgiving 2013 post

Saddie made it to California!
After flying into SFO, Gabe picked her up...and he and I met halfway for 'the transfer of goods'!  Pictures weren't made, but we had 2 1/2 days of visiting, going to the movie (Captain Phillips), hanging out at Costco...just visiting.   Monday night (actually, EARLY Tuesday morning), Lindsey, Donnie, Benjamin, and William got here.  William was playing with his Saddie...hiding behind her chair...

Lindsey came in to talk to her Saddie...munching on something...

Both Lindsey and her Saddie were drinking their tea...
William was going back and forth...from his Saddie, to his Mimi...
 William is definitely a comedian...
 and definitely a little sweetheart...
His Saddie was calling him back over...
He had to think about it awhile...

Fun times with the little guy!
and his great-grandmother :)
