1st tooth out

May 23rd was a pretty momentous day for Mr. Emerson King!  Yes siree, it was.  He lost a tooth, his first tooth to loose...and he lost it by SWALLOWING it!!!
Emerson shows the new gap in his smile!
Emerson had a visitor while he slept on the night of May 23rd.  When he woke up on the 24th, I asked him if the Tooth Fairy had come.  He said, in a very dejected voice, 'no.'
Having an inside connection with the Tooth Fairy, I was surprised that she hadn't come...so I went and checked under his pillow...saw that she had DEFINITLEY been there, and went and got Emerson.
'Excited' is a fairly mild term to describe Emerson at this point.  He tore open the envelope and found his gift.

The Tooth Fairy must have been reading about infllation.  $5?
Later Saturday morning, Emeson got a bit 'under-the-weather.'  He said his stomach hurt 'a little'.  Well, about 30 minutes later, he threw up everywhere!

A little later, Emerson told me his stomach hurt.   He actually told me that several times.  After a while, he told me he knew why he threw up... He said it was the tooth he lost.

See, Emerson's tooth came out while he was eating a tuna fish sandwich....and he swallowed it!

oh no!!!

My baby is 38!

My baby boy...Joshua...is 38 years old today!
Here is my baby boy in May of 1977.  He was one year old and so absolutely precious!
I took a little nostalgic ride mostly through 1978.
Here we are:  "Sad Sack", as she was called, me, Patti, Aunt Jane
Joshua, Mimi, Ray
This was in January of 1978
Joshua was a happy little guy...as you can see here on February 15, 1978
Oops!  On February 25, 1978, Joshua looks like he had a little accident...well, he just didn't make it soon enough!
I'm sure he was saying 'cheese' here.  Joshua was getting used to having his picture made!
March 1, 1978...this is Joshua and Justin Wood.  Justin and Joshua were buddies!  I also kept Justin while his parents worked.  I loved taking photos of them together.  Joshua so fair and Justin so dark...  I wonder where Justin is now?

March 11, 1978...Joshua was helping me bake bread.  He had stitches on his chin...I think it was from falling off his yellow bus.
March 26, 1978... Easter Sunday!

Early in May...must have been the week before Joshua's birthday, we went up to Crater Lake.  This was my Mom's first trip to see it.  Mom had come up for Joshua's birthday.  I was pregnant with Gabrial...only we didn't know it was Gabrial.
These two were taken at one of the little campgrounds between Crater Lake and Prospect, where we lived.
This is Highway 62 that leads out of Prospect, Oregon.  This was the road we would take to go to Crater Lake.  Isn't it gorgeous?
Here is my baby boy, exactly 36 years ago today.  Joshua is 38 years old today...and these pictures were taken on his 2nd birthday...May 14, 1978!

Joshua called my mom, Sad Sack, even though now she is called Saddie.  Lindsey is the one that shortened it...and it stuck!
Sad Sack and Granddad bought this swingset for Joshua for his 2nd birthday!
This was still his birthday...and this yellow bus is the one he fell off of when he had to get stitches on his chin. Ron just reminded me how he cut his chin....HE, Dad..pushed Joshua on the bus and Joshua went flying over the front end.  Ron says it was more painful for him.
I don't know about that!
Still on his birthday, this was his birthday outfit!

What Joshua really wanted to do on his birthday was play on his new swingset!

May 15, 1978 was the day Sad Sack flew back to Texas.  We took her to the airport in Medford to put her on the plane.

sniff, sniff
In June, 1978, we had more family come from Texas!
June 16, 1978
Grandpa, Grammy, Uncle Larry with Brenda
Sandra, Joshua (held by Grammy), and me
Here we were at Crater Lake

Grammy and Joshua at Crater Lake

Here is Joshua with the rocking chair that I still have..the rocking chair that was MY grandfathers, that he got for his first birthday in 1901!
Oops!  Someone was so tired that he fell asleep while he was riding on his rocking horse!
July 8, 1978
We were at Lost Creek Lake south of Prospect.
July, 1978, brought more family from Texas!  Here is my Mimi with Joshua...at Crater Lake.  This was on July 20, 1978.
Ray also came...and here he and Joshua are in our backyard doing something with the wheelbarrow!
Joshua with a Pepsi?  Can you see the ring on his finger?
Ray, Aunt Jane with Joshua, and Mimi
We went up to the different day campgrounds off Highway 62.
Uncle Charlie, Mimi, Joshua, Ray, and Aunt Jane

Everyone wanted to see Joshua...my sweet baby boy!

Fast forward 20 years...

Joshua was in the U.S. Marines (still is!) but in San Diego.  Grammy and Grandpa were on their way up to our house to see Lindsey graduate from high school.  They stopped in Capistrano Beach and Joshua came and spent the day with them at the beach.

In December, 1978, we all flew to Texas for Christmas.
Here's Joshua with his UJ...well, Joshua is also now a UJ!
Joshua has never been real adventurous on his choice of foods.  I think he's thinking he's not going to like this...whatever it is!
This was Joshua and I in August of 1999.  We're on the grounds of Mission San Juan Capistrano.  I THINK this is the time I went down and picked up Joshua's car before he went overseas???

Fast forward a few more years...and Joshua met someone very special...Erica.  Erica is my sweet daughter-in-law...
not only is today Joshua's 38th birthday..
but it's also Joshua and Erica's anniversary!  Hopefully they'll be celebrating both Joshua's birthday and their anniversary in Bangkok!  Maybe Thalia will bake a cake sing Happy Birthday to her dad!

Happy Birthday, Joshua...

and Happy Anniversary, Joshua and Erica!

Happy 5th Birthday to Emerson!

Happy Birthday to Emerson!
I remember this day five years ago...remember it so clearly!  Remember driving and hoping I'd make it before he was born.  I didn't, but I was within minutes.  Oh my...were his mama and daddy excited and proud of their little man!  His Papa Greg was there, along with his great grandma, Bestimore.  The three of us were anxiously waiting to see our new little man!

Now here it is, five years later!  Time has flown by...but at the same time, I cannot imagine life without him.

Looking back over the year Emerson was four years old....

In June, 2013:
 We worked a 3-D puzzle...
 played with toys...
rode his bike...with a little help from his Daddy!...
played baseball in the backyard with his Daddy and his Papa...

and told us he was Buster Posey!

In July, 2013:

We brought Emerson to his cousin's...he and Benjamin played cars, and cars, and more cars!
They played in the backyard...in their matching t-shirts from Monaco!
Emerson tried to keep his cousin, William, out of trouble in the grocery store...
(I LOVE this picture!)
We walked to the park near Benjamin's house to play...
What fun it was in July!

On the last day of August and in September, 2013:
Emerson came to our house, along with Benjamin and William...
He was excited about Buster Posey and monster trucks!
We went to the park and he and Benjamin raced their cars/trucks along this ledge...
I tried to pitch to him in the backyard.  He told me I did a good job, even when the ball was nowhere close to where he could hit it!
When his dad pitched, well, that was a different story!
Lindsey and I took all three boys to the apple farm...Emerson forgot to bring his Thailand shirt.
At the end of September, Emerson came back to visit with his dad.  He spent part of a day in a fourth grade classroom, joining right in with my students.

While his dad and Papa were hunting, we went to a farm to get a pumpkin.  They wouldn't let us pick one, so we picked strawberries instead!  Somebody was a ham!

In October, 2013:

Papa turned 60 years old on October 20th.  Emerson came up to help celebrate the milestone...and for the surprise birthday party!
He and Benjamin loved playing on the iPad...
 He had his first 'shiner'...
We hung around the kitchen talking...
 He was definitely excited...
His buddy, James, came over to visit.  They played with the monster trucks...
and I got a great picture of Emerson and Gabe!

In November, 2013:

Saddie came to California, so Emerson, Benjamin, and William came up...along with their parents!

We took a family picture...missing Joshua, Erica, and Thalia...sniff, sniff...
Saddie with her great-grandsons...
On the day after Thanksgiving, Benjamin and William left to go pack for Chile, and we went to see Santa Claus!
Emerson was excited to see him, but then once there, he wanted to get it over as quick as possible...
He did tell Santa he wanted a monster truck for Christmas...
Santa gave him a candy cane wrapped in plastic.  "Mimi, what do I do with it?" he asked me.
Back at home, he was playing around with his blanket...
Baseball was played in the backyard, too!

December, 2013:

Emerson loved the tree and all the gifts.  He sorted through them, looking for ones with his name and putting them in one pile.

Then he separated everyone's into piles!
 He loved his SFGiants mug..
along with all the other gifts!
He enjoyed watching everyone else open theirs...

He definitely loved his Monster trucks!

January, 2014:

We only saw you for a little over an hour in January.  On January 1st, we were heading down to see your Aunt Lindsey and family who had just returned from Chile.  We met you and your dad at In n Out Burger.

February, 2014:

In February, Emerson wanted a hair cut...a 'hawk'...like two of his favorite players:  Hunter Pence on the Giants and David Lee on the Warriors.  His dad was the barber!

 He loves his 'Dad'!!!
Emerson wanted to show me his muscles!

March, 2014:

March 2 was the day of William's 2nd birthday party.  Emerson, who used to not like the trampoline, gave it a try...and had a great time!  His dad joined him...
and then his cousin joined in...
but Emerson was after his dad!

William just loves his cousin, Emerson!
 So does his Aunt Lindsey...
I love the way Emerson looks at his dad!

April, 2014:

April 13th was picture day for Emerson's league.  I took him to get them ... and took a few photos as his were being made.

 Note his spider tattoo!
He said this picture was 'defense.'  But his dad told him if it was defense, he should have a glove.
"Oh," he said.
After pictures, we headed to In n Out Burger.  My little baseball player and I shared a lemonade.
On May 26th, Emerson had a T-ball game.  I was excited because this was my first time to see him in a game.

He played catch with his dad before game-time...

Once the game started, the players were all out in the field, not necessarily playing a position, but in the general area.
It was fun to watch him bat...

 and run the bases...
On 3rd base, there was his dad...the 3rd base coach....
There was no 'winner' or 'loser'...they were all winners!

Now here it is, May 13th, and Emerson is 5 years old.  It's amazing what he's done in his first 5 years of life...what a special little guy!

Happy 5th Birthday, Emerson!

Your Mimi sure does love you!
