Wat Arun - August 12, part 2

After our visit at Wat Pho, we took a ferry to the other side of the river to see Wat Arun.  This is another of the places I really wanted to see...and climb.  I had seen people climbing when Joshua and I were on the river my first week here.
There were so many boats out...I love the contrast with the old boats and the new modern skyline...

This is Wat Arun!  My little book says it's one of the most symbolic landmarks in Bangkok. It's also called the 'Temple of Dawn.'  "Arun" means morning..and the temple is best viewed at dawn...or at sunset from opposite bank of the river.
It's decorated by thousands of tiny seashells and pieces of Chinese porcelain... and is 'protected' by a host of demons and monkeys.
 Look at the detail...
In this picture, you can see Wat Pho's roof in the distance....
My baby boy and my sweetheart daughter-in-law...
Now, climbing this was...well, it's steep...very steep.  Thalia, brave soul that she is, attempted (and completed the climb), but you might say she was a bit ... well, nervous.  She was holding on for dear life!
Lizbeth made it halfway up, but the 2nd half, (which Thalia did), was much, much steeper.  Lizbeth stayed behind.  This was when they had both made it up the first section.

 The Chao Phraya River...

Thalia was determined...even if she had to practically crawl part of the way...
It was such a beautiful view the higher you went...

 Love this!

You can sort of tell the steepness... although it was really steeper than it looks here.  You could NOT go straight down...the steps weren't large enough...you had to put your foot sideways...

You may notice a similarity between the photos above and below this writing????

 It's just incredible!

While we went to the bathroom before heading back across the river to catch the main boat back to the pier we started from...Joshua took the camera and took some more pictures...The Chao Phraya River is not the cleanest..so... I don't know about eating these fish!  There sure are a bunch of them, though!
The boat with all the people on it in the background...the one on the left side, that's the one we took to just get across... it's only 3 baht a person...so all 5 of us was 15 baht, which is about 50 cents.

Before boarding, I looked back to take one more photo...
When the boat came to the pier to take us to where we started, it was crowded.  You have to understand, these people are using these boats for transportation...tourists just happen to use them too.  They don't wait...they pull in and quickly pull out...and if you want on, you better be ready.
Well, we were ready, and Joshua and Thalia jumped on the very crowded boat...and they unhooked the rope and yelled, no,no,no...and wouldn't let the rest of us get on!  So Erica, Lizbeth, and I waited another 20 or 30 minutes for the next boat and hopped on...

We were all absolutely starving...

We went and had burritos...at a place called Sunrise Tacos...  They might be in the U.S.... but oh man, was it delicious.  We were hungry and they were filling.  Swenson's ice cream was next on the agenda..and then we needed to get home and get some young new high schooler to bed...

It was another incredible day in Bangkok!
