Emerson turned 6 years old on May 13th...
I asked him what he wanted for his birthday.
"Minecraft, Mimi!" was his answer.
"Minecraft...what?"
"MINECRAFT!"
I still didn't quite understand, so I asked him what kind of Minecraft...
He told me it was squares.
"I know that," I told him, "but what kind of stuff is Minecraft? Books, games...?"
"Minecraft toys," he answered.
"What kind of Minecraft toys," I inquired.
"You know, toys, toys that you play with."
At this point, I still didn't quite get it because I had never seen any Minecraft toys...I'd only seen the books in Scholastic book orders.
Amazon...I went to Amazon and typed in Minecraft toys.
Ah-ha! Now I understood.
'Target,' I thought, 'I'll check out Target.'
Sure enough, they had what I thought Emerson might be talking about.
I got a few little sets, wrapped them up, with a Minecraft T-shirt and a pair of shorts, and off we went to see Emerson for his birthday party.
Friday night when we arrived, we brought the wrapped gifts inside.
He was still awake...kept checking out the boxes and saying he'd really like to open them.
"Nope," his dad told him.
"You have to wait till morning when everyone is downstairs."
Fast forward to Saturday morning. I'm sound asleep until I hear,
"Mimi, it sure is light outside."
I asked if everyone was up.
He said just his mom was asleep.
"Wake me up when she's up, too."
A little later,
"Mimi, it sure is light outside."
"Emerson, what time is it?"
He told me to hold on, he'd go check.
I can't remember what time it was...something like 8:05.
He said his mom was awake, but still in bed.
I told him to wake me up when she was OUT of bed and downstairs.
The time arrived...and Emily said she had asked him why he wanted her to get up so bad.
Minecraft...
He was pretty sure he had some Minecraft in those packages...
and he was correct, of course.
He explained what all the pieces were and asked me if I wanted to take a picture.
Of course I did!
His other Papa came and Emerson got another present...
a headlamp!
It was time for some more pictures..
and the ham in him started coming out...
He was checking out what was in the gift bags that were being given out at his party.
(Yes, this is correct...he was looking at me upside down.)
While Gabe and Ron were off getting parts for Greg to use to install a new microwave, Emerson got his Papa to play a baseball video game.
Emerson was patient..
He tried to explain how to use the little buttons to make the guys swing the bat.
When Greg's guy was up...
well, after a minute, Emerson said,
"You should have swung, Papa."
Emerson told him he was suppose to hit either the square or circle button (I can't remember which) and then Emerson added,
"Don't you know your shapes?"
What a character our new little 6 year old is!
