Tomato and Berry Picking

Even in our cooler, damp climate...we can grow a few things.

Tomatoes!

This year, my guy planted 3 pots of tomatoes...and they've done pretty well.  Last time the kids were up, we had one large tomato that had just gotten ripe.  We were looking forward to tasting it....well, enter Benjamin!  Benjamin LOVES tomatoes, and next thing I knew, he had picked it and was eating it like an apple.  He ate the whole thing.  I didn't have the heart to ask for a bite.

Emerson used to not eat tomatoes, but this time, he did.  He picked a few of the little ones and chowed down.

Blueberries grow well...very well.  The boys absolutely love the blueberries...
but so did their Saddie!  She told me she had never picked blueberries before!
Unfortunately...Emerson was only here less than 24 hours, so he didn't to be part of the blueberry picking :(  Benjamin ate plenty for both of them.
Benjamin showed his Saddie what a RIPE blueberry looked like...
however, he ate them even if they weren't ripe!  I know they had to be...sour?...tart?  but it seemed to make no difference to Benjamin.  He ate them all.
William was looking for a ripe one, but his mama said, "Nope, no blueberry for you!"
I reminded him he would get some indirectly and he was happy...
but then he wondered what 'indirectly' meant...
Benjamin went back to his picking.  He had to stand on a ladder to reach the higher ones.

Saddie got into her berry picking!

"Look right here, Saddie," Benjamin told his great-grandmother.

It's hard when you see that perfectly, plump, dark blue berry almost out of reach... you just have to stretch a little bit further...just like Saddie is doing here!
 Was it worth the stretch?
"GOOD!" declared our newest berry picker!

All the ripe berries - and a bunch of unripe ones - were gone...so we headed inside.
I wanted to grab a picture of the berry pickers first...
William...he wasn't a berry picker, but I told him he got to have them indirectly...

It was a fun time, more so knowing it was Saddie's first time!
